The Acara Team once again developed, marketed and executed an extremely successful MedSpa Event for one of our East Coast Clients. Sandi Unkrur, Acara’s MedSpa Sales Guru, was onsite to facilitate the presentation and sales process.
Over 60 people were in attendance, 27 received consultations that evening and sales were almost $60,000.00!
It’s exciting for our Client to start the year with record sales and in addition, I’m very proud of the Acara Team. We have now held numerous events nationwide for Medical Spas with the average sales at $35,000.00.

In this weeks Webinar I discussed a strategy for a Medical Spa in need of increasing its performance or turning around its business. The basics apply in both situations, first you need to analyze your situation, create a plan and then quickly and decisively implement the action items identified in the plan.
Make sure you write a High Impact Action Plan (as we call it at Acara). Essentially a list of turnaround tactics that will have immediate impact on your bottom line. The top 7 areas that you will want to look at when deciding upon your Turnaround Tactics are as follows:
1. Cost Reduction
2. Cash Conservation
3. Acquiring New Clients
4. Keeping Existing Clients
5. Implementing a Sales System
6. Hiring Professionals
7. Empowering Your Team
Acara has extensive experience creating and implementing these plans and improving performance for under performing and failing medical spas. If you would like to discuss your business, please feel free to reach out to me.

As everyone knows, when someone is having a cardiac arrest they need immediate resuscitation or they will die from a lack of blood circulating oxygen to the brain and vital organs. The life-blood of a business is cash. If it stops flowing then a company begins to experience the equivalent of a cardiac arrest leading to its death or basically a business shut-down.
I realize that my analogy is somewhat dramatic but I need to make a point here. If your MedSpa is losing money each month and draining your financial resources, it is important to act swiftly to resolve the issue. Do not fool yourself into thinking that it will get better next month, it won’t, unless you are implementing significant changes to the way you operate and market your business. And don’t get caught in the trap of believing you can bootstrap your way to success, that opportunity passed when you entered your 9th month and still continued to lose money.
If you don’t stop the bleeding your business will die and the only emergency care for a dying business is a very strong dose of solid management and effective marketing, both of which cost money.
Every week I speak to Medical Spa owners that say they don’t have the resources to implement a marketing program, hire the staff they need or contract the right professionals to help them fix their problems. Albert Einstein once said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. Is this you?
I will be exploring what it takes to resuscitate a medical spa in need of a business turnaround this Tuesday, January 27th at 1:00 p.m. Please join me for “Dial 911 Acara for MedSpa Resuscitation” Webinar.

It goes without saying that yesterday was a very important day for our country. A day when we inaugurated our 44th President. A new administration that the entire nation is hoping will lead this country to economic stability over the next few years. I was inspired by his Inaugural speech, specifically when he said that the nation must choose, ”hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord”. Clearly in order for our country to move forward successfully this will be critical. But more importantly, for small business owners and Medical Spa business owners and operators we need to listen to his words and use them as our inspiration in 2009.
During difficult economic times it is so important that we, as business leaders, hold onto the hope for the future and not allow fear to overcome us or our teams in conducting business day-to-day. It is a sign of a true business leader that can remain strong in the face of adversity and succeed.
In addition, we must provide our teams with their purpose, they must remain focused on what is important to be successful: great customer service, high quality results-driven services and identifying our client’s needs and offering them the best possible solutions. It is your job as a Medical Spa leader to insure that your team remains focused on their “purpose” because when they don’t there is conflict and discord that occurs within our businesses.
I hope that all of you take our new President, Barack Obama’s words to heart using them as your inspiration to conduct business day-to-day as we work through these trying economic times.
And before I sign off on this post, I want to give everyone hope that if you consistently apply solid management and implement effective/efficient marketing you can succeed during a recession. We see it every day throughout the country with many of Acara’s clients.

As we see an increase in the growing number of Medical Spas that continue to lose money, whether it is due to the economy or not, Acara continues to receive the 9 1 1 call from MedSpa owners and operators looking for us to resuscitate their business.
With extensive turnaround experience in the hospitality, spa and medical spa industries, the Acara team is well suited to identify the root of the problem and develop a turnaround plan. One of many examples include, Acara taking a medical spa from $25K per month up to $75K +.
The reason I’m writing this post is to provide a word of warning to MedSpa owners. I find that 70-80% wait until it is potentially too late for Acara or anyone to save their business. In order to execute a proper turnaround plan you need to spend money. There is the cost of professional fees, marketing expenses and from time-to-time operational costs (i.e. restaffing, etc). The plan will often include market re-positioning, website upgrades, staff re-engineering, sales training, management training, new service & product implementation.
It is too bad that oftentimes we receive 9 1 1 calls from businesses for help and it is too late. They have no working capital, collateral or credit remaining to invest the money into a turnaround plan.
If you think you are in need of help “don’t wait until it’s too late to resuscitate”, do it now.
A good start may be attending one of our Webinars or more specifically, attending my Webinar: Dial Acara 9 1 1 for MedSpa Resuscitation being held on Tuesday, January 27th.

The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, an industry group in Washington, has drafted a new code: a voluntary ban on the part of drug companies from giving doctors promotional items i.e. pens, flash drives, staples, and of course the most well know give-away in the cosmetic industry, Allergan’s rhinestone adorned black B-O-T-O-X t-shirts.
For more information read about it in the New York Times.
