“Best of Breed” Laser Training with Industry Leader Patrick Clark


The Acara team is always looking for the “Best of Breed” when it comes to technology, aesthetic medical devices and training programs.  The most difficult is to identify “Best of Breed” training programs.  There are so many individuals, associations, and quasi-non-profits that claim to have the best clinical training programs available but often don’t have the credentials or experience to back it up.

Up until recently we hesitated to make any recommendation for advanced laser training, in spite of the tremendous need in the marketplace.  Then, one year ago, we were fortunate enough to meet Pat Clark at a Sciton Laser Summit.  It was very clear to us that he was extremely knowledgeable and surprisingly (not typical for most PhDs that I know) charming and a brilliant, engaging speaker and educator.

Botax: Will Congress Harm the Self-Esteem of America?


Today, I want to speak out against Botax.  Congress has added a provision to the Healthcare Reform bill that will tax cosmetic medical procedures.

I have been in this industry for a long time, over 25 years, and during that time I have owned or operated over 70 spas, medical spas and cosmetic practices nationwide.  I’ve had the good fortune to have touched the lives of over 1 million men and women.

Interestingly enough, it has been through cosmetic medical procedures that I have seen the greatest impact on people.  Cosmetic medical procedures transform a person, not just physically, and oftentimes act as a catalyst leading to improved lifestyle change including weight loss, increased exercise and better nutrition.  All of which enhances a person’s self esteem, confidence, and the ability to face the world with greater strength and focus.

Top MedSpa Service Picks 2009


This past week I presented an Acara Webinar to a large group of MedSpa industry professionals.  The topic was my topdart-boardMedSpa service picks for 2009.  I identified my ”top picks” by first establishing a criteria that each service had to meet which was as follows:

  1. High Consumer Demand
  2. Minimal Downtime
  3. Produce Visible Results
  4. Profitable 

After reviewing the many Medspa services available on the market today, I identified the following 7 that met my criteria.

  1. Laser Lipolysis
  2. Medically Supervised Weight Loss
  3. Fractionated Skin Resurfacing
  4. Liquid Face Lift (use of multiple injectables for an overall youthful appearance)
  5. Chemical Peels
  6. Photo Facials
  7. Hair Removal

The first 4 on the list are definitely my four top picks for 2009.  The next three are old standbys that met the muster of the criteria and are essentially must-haves.
